Good afternoon. My husband, age 67, has developed gout. Second time in his life. Symptoms are diminished, but swelling is still present. Has been a little over 2 weeks now. Following all instructions. Is 2 1/2 weeks for gout swelling in foot normal?

Start with Allopurinol daily if not used for therapy till now. Gradually increase the dose if symptoms does not improve. Use cautiously in liver and renal impairment. Hypersensitivity reactions are frequent with it so stop immediately if rashes appears in the body.
