How Can Gout On The Right Hand Be Treated?

I have gout in my right hand. My thumb and index are swollen and I can hardly brush my teeth. my doctor wants to do surgery on my hand. I had my foot operated on, but I still have pain. I have the worst case of gout in both my feet and my right hand. I never asked my doctors this question, but can a person die from gout ?I do not not have the money to pay for an answer,so I will continue to do what I can now. Thank you

Hello, Thanks for the query.
Gouty arthritis can be painful and troublesome but it does not kill a person. If tophies develop, some times surgery may be needed. Otherwise acute attacks can be controlled by taking NSAIDs like Ibuprofen, Diclofenac and Indomethacin. Drugs helping excreting uric acid are used to reduce the blood level. By using drug like Indomethacin you may be able to overcome the acute attack, pain and swelling. If surgery is inevitable then you may decide on it later. Thanks.
