This is my first experience with gout. My doctors office called with the results of a blood test. The nurse proceeded to tell me I have gout and we have called you in a script of Alopurenal. Its a holiday weekend and I m in pain Ive had it in my toe and now I m getting it in the end of my middle finger. I hate to be a baby but I m in pain what can I do?
Hello dear I understand your concern When uric acid level > 7 mg/dl (in male) and > 6 mg/dl (in female) called gout.
Treatment of accute attack: Tablet diclofenac or ibuprofen Drugs like colchicine and steroid can be useful. Apply ice-pack to the joint can also relieve pain, swelling and inflammation.
Long term treatment: There are two strategies in this management. Change in life style: - Lose weight - Reduce alcoholic drink and purine rich foods (re meat, fish mainly) - Take low fat diet, more yogurt and butter milk - Drug: Allopurinol or febuxostat: reduce uric acid
Target is to reduce You can start diclofenac and apply cold ice pack and then start long term prescription drug according to doctor advise. Hope this may help you
Contact further if follow up needed Best regards Dr. Sagar
