How Can Hair Loss And Itching On The Scalp Be Treated?

Hello doctor.. I m suffering from heavy hair fall with severe scalp itching from 2 months.. recently i visited dermatologist.. he told that there infection in the scalp, it causes itching..So he prescribed me with permethrin lotion and ivermectin shampoo for 2 weeks on twice a week basis..after 15 days daily massage the scalp with tressgro cream, topika herbal hair oil & multivitamin tablet for alternate days.. When I go through the internet I got to know that first 2 weeks treatment for lice. But I don t have such lice !!!!! I m confused why he has given this !!!!

I understand your concern.

The very first thing to treat an itchy scalp and hair loss is to determine what causes this:
- changes in shampoo or hair products?
- scalp infection: fungal? bacterial?

The best thing is to get an examination of hair and scalp scrapping under microscope to evaluate the inflammation and infection there.

Next, the permethrin lotion and ivermectin shampoo are potent anti-inflammatory treatment. As there is an inflammatory process going on your scalp, your dermatologist recommended these 2 treatments although they are prescribed for inflammation/infection of scalp caused by lice.

The other treatment like tressgo cream, topika harbal hair oil and multivitamin tablet will help induce hair growing after the inflammation is totally dominated.

Please follow up with dermatologist regularly.
