Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
How Can Hearing Loss Due To Hole In The Eardrum Be Treated?
I had a disintegrated eardrum, and skin was taken from behind my ear to make a new one. It was successful and my hearing inproved. However, I m told this eardrum has also disintegrated, and I now have hearing loss. I don t have any pain, and only on one occasion has a dark coloured discharge. Is it possible to have another eardrum made as before, and would a hearing aid help? The new drum survived for about 13 years.
Further treatment depends upon the cause of tympanic membrane perforation like ASOM or otosclerosis or middle ear tumour associated with complications present or not.
Simple tympanic membrane perforation without mastitis or cholesteatoma may be treated with tympanoplasty. Please consult your ENT specialist he will examine and treat you accordingly.
Avoid cool drinks and freeze water, use water vapour inhalation and salt water gargling thrice a day for five days.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
