Hello, I am a 20 year old male and am unhappy with my height. Every other male in my family is atleast 5 9 and I stand 5 7. The height if my torso is very small looking in proportion to the size of my head and length of my legs. I am wondering if there is any possible way to put on some pernanent height at thus point in my life. I understand that through specific stretching routines, proper posture, adequate sleep and good nutrition can all contribute to an increase in ones temporary height. But could some of this height obtained become permanent? Is there a way to stretch the cartelige between the vertebrae to increasr their thickness ultimately resulting in a longer spine?

How Can Height Be Increased?
Hi, Unfortunately, it is not possible for the height to increase at age 20. Growth plates are found at the end of the long bones of the arms and legs. These plates add bone and therefore increase height and length. At the end of puberty, these growth plates change permanently so that they do not allow more bone to be deposited (there is no further growth). Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further. Regards, Dr. Michelle Gibson James, General & Family Physician
