Hi,
Welcome to Healthcaremagic.

I had gone through your question I can understand your concern about your father.
Hepatitis B is a viral infection, there are two stages of disease Acute and Chronic.
If he is in acute stage you don't need to do anything for Six months because most of the time it gets cured at its own (self healing) . If he is of chronic stage that means core antigen (C) positive you have to put him on medication.

There are nowadays many drugs that cause ciroconversion (cure disease), though not in all patients but one thing is it always increases Tha life span of period upto 15-20 years.
You need to visit a Gastroenterologist for further evaluation. Also diabetes should must remain in control during chemotherapy.
Chemotherapy anti viral) therapy can last minimum for a year or life long depending upon the chances of seroconversion.

Hope my answer will be helpful to you. Write us back in case you need any further assistance is needed.

Regards
Dr Muzaffer Hussain Parray.
