Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Thank you for your information. I have had (5) HERNIA repairs in the last 7 years. I have another one appear recently. All my hernia s have been above the Belly Button in the abdominal area. Mesh was used each time. I have heard that the mesh move around and allows other hernia s to appear. Are there other methods for treating hernia s other than using mesh. The mesh treatments are obviously not working for me. Richard Sowinski
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Laparoscopic surgery can be performed with or without surgical mesh. The surgeon makes an incision near the hernia and the weak muscle area is repaired. Open repair that uses sutures without mesh is referred to as primary closure.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
