Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
How Can Heterotopic Ossification In The Kneecap Be Treated?
I had a total knee replacement in 2008, right knee. I have developed HO inside the tendon right above the kneecap. Is there a way to remove the bone even though it is inbedded in the tendon? Also, if I go through a second surgery, how is physical therapy achieved since I have less than 30% range of motion in the knee? Thank you! Rosa
Sorry about your health condition. Prophylaxis treatment for this condition like radiotherapy or NSAIDS may useful. But formed heterotrophic calcified patients may only have surgical excision. But no other treatment modalities are effective. Please consult your orthopedics he will examine and treat you accordingly.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Penchila Prasad Kandikattu, Internal Medicine Specialist
