How Can Hiccups Be Treated?

UMBILICAL HERNIA SURGERY YESTERDAY - ALL WENT WELL - HAD A TERRIFIC SURGICAL TEAM. TODAY - HICUPS AFTER EATING ANYTHING - LASTING FOR ABOUT A HALF HOUR EACH EPISODE. FAIRLY PAINFUL WITH THE RECENT SURGICAL PROCEDURE. Any suggestions? Sure would appreciate some relief.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Hiccups are quite common after any surgical procedures and it is due to after effects of anaesthesia. Generally it will subside by it own even without any treatment. If the hiccups are severe enough to bother you, you can take baclofen tablets twice a day.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain
