How Can High Blood Pressure And Severe Headache Be Treated?
I have very high blood pressure and a very severe headache on the back and sides of my neck. I ve been in the hospital and given migraine meds as well as OTC pain relievers, but nothing helps. I am very uncomfortable standing, sitting and laying down and I m miserable. I can t get ahold of my cardiologist. Thanks.
Severe headache due to high blood pressure requires treatment as emergency as it can lead to stroke or vision loss.Visit ER. CT scan head and fundoscopy needs to be done to rule effects of high BP on brain. BP needs to be monitored till it gets lowered to acceptable limits.Diastolic BP above 110 mm Hg with symptoms needs to be gradually lowered down under medical supervision. Drugs like nitroglycerine, hydralazine ,isosorbitrate have to be used. BP then needs to be maintained with some maientance drug like Enalapril or Atenolol on OPD basis. Avoid alcohol, caffeine and sedatives. Have a salt restricted diet. Have continous follow ups with your treating physician.
Hope I answered your query. Wish you good health.
