My father is 82 and is on high blood pressure pills. He got food poisoning last night and was throwing up, but his blood pressure went up very high 182/75. Today his blood pressure is still high I gave his blood pressure pills but it didn t go down much. What should I do.

Hi,
It would have been nice if you had provided some information on what pills your father is on. The systolic(182) is very high indeed and is not desirable. But diastolic(75) is normal; so the high systolic with a normal diastolic pressure without symptoms like headache and giddiness should not worry you so much.
I would have recommended my patient regular blood pressure measurements. If the systolic blood pressure is high in many readings, I would consider adding a calcium channel blocker like amlodipine that would help in normalising systolic blood pressure especially in old people.
You can discuss the above options with your care giver. Hope the above information helps you. Thanks.
