How Can High Blood Pressure Be Treated?

I ve experienced two possible warning signs for a stroke or some type of heart issue I believe. My left arm hurt for one full day, started hurting while I was just at rest, didn t strain it whatsoever and then the day after my right eye had a smokey haze to it, my vision was clouded. Well, I decided to go to a machine in a store and check my blood pressure just out of curiosity and it was pretty darn high. 152/92 and my pulse is high, I checked it twice just to be sure and it came back high for both again. However now I m even more worried because I ve had 4 bloody noses this week and before this week I ve only had one bloody nose in my entire life, so it s not common for me and I saw it could be related to high blood pressure. Guess I m just wondering what to do? Just eat better and exercise? Or could this be worse off then I think? (P.s. I also have IIH, idiopathic intracranial hypertension, and am on meds for it but I ve been on the meds for close to 6 months and this just started happening)

Hi,

I would talk about your problems one by one.
1. Your BP is not too high 152/90 is just little high than normal. In such patients, we don't prescribe drugs. You just need to reduce salt and keep your BP record for 2 weeks if it was more then 160 then we may start treatment. So don't worry about it.
2. Your nasal bleed is not related to your high BP, you should discuss this with ENT specialist to see for any local cause. Try to avoid picking it.
3. The most important is the pain and blurring of vision. This should be assessed by your neurologist as it may be related to your benign internal hypertension or possibly a stroke.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Dr. Mahboob Ur Rahman,
