Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have high blood pressure. I take amlodipine 10mg. Stopped taking because of swelling in legs, I have diabetes, and the swelling left. I also take lisinopril 40 mg twice a day. My qustion is stopping amlodipine my BP has went from 125 over 75 to 145 over 90. Is that OK or is there a different Med I should use?
Hello there. I have read through your question and would like to tell you that amlodipine is a calcium channel blocker which causes pedal oedema in some patients. Since your Blood pressure is not being controlled by lisnopril alone you have to take another antihypertensive. Since you have diabetes it will be beneficial for you to take an aldosterone antagonist foreg. losartan or Telmisartan. You can discuss it with your physician. I hope that answers your question. If you have any further questions please feel free to write.
