Hi,I am Raju.A.T (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello Dr. I gained 46 pounds in 2 months ( from 130pound to 176 pounds) by eating extremely because I was thin, and bones on my neck and chest were showing. this weekend, I checked my blood pressure, and it was 190/100. therefore, yesterday and today, I only ate vegetable, fruits, with no salt in my food. and my blood pressure is now 182/78. What should I do now? Thank you.
Firstly even if sudden weight gain can cause increase in blood pressure, BP of 190/100 mmhg is a serious condition and needs urgent medical attention. How are you measuring your blood pressure? If you are using an automated monitor, then get it checked if the readings are proper. Secondly my advice is get your BP checked by a doctor and if the BP is still at the same level then start treatment accordingly.
For now my advice is: - If you want to gain weight then Exercise is a must, for example muscle building exercises, like push ups, lifting weights, etc If possible join a gym and take proper diet and exercise plan from your gym trainer. The more exercises you do the more appetite you will have and eventually you will start eating more than you used to. The method you used to gain weight is not a good way, it takes time so be patient. Eating too much suddenly might cause serious problems, its good that you checked your BP soon. - And for now if you can try, drink beetroot juice 3 times a day, for lowering your blood pressure. And also do cardio exercises like walking, running, even this helps to lower BP.
Secondly, consult your local doctor to get your Blood pressure checked and start treatment.
Hope this helps. Take care..
