How Can High Blood Sugar Levels Be Controlled?

I am an insulin dependent diabetic. I wear an insulin pump. My normal dose is about 40 unites per day For the last 2 days my blood sugar has been between 200 and 375. I have cut back on my food and increased my insulin to about 65 unites per day. My energy is gone and I don t feel like getting up when I sit down. I am 88 years old and have been on insulin for 32 years. other than this, according to my doctor, I am in excellent health. any help would appreciated. Bill McDaniel

Hi Bill,
Thanks for asking.
Based on your query, my opinion is as follows.
1. Your dose of insulin is caliberated for your diet.
2. If you cut down on diet and increase insulin, you might go for hypoglycemia.
3. Check your blood sugar to make sure, you are not going for hypoglycemia or hyperglycemia. Both can cause tiredness. Also check for anemia. Get an hemogram to rule out any infections. You will regain energy slowly, as variation in glucose levels is a stressful period.
Hope it helps.
Any further queries, happy to help again.
