How Can High Cholesterol Levels Be Treated?

My total cholesterol is 214, LDL is 131, HDL 59, and trigl 121. The first two are down 25 points from a year ago due to my taking apple cider vinegar daily since Sept 2016. My doc still wants me to take statins for it. I have suffered from side affects of statins in the past. I am 78, exercise regularly, and am very diet conscious. What would you recommend? YYYY@YYYY Thank you. Patricia

Thanks for your question on Healthcare Magic.
I can understand your concern.
I will be also says the same, start statin.
In old age, due to aging, atherosclerosis is seen common.
It will be more if your cholesterol, especially bad cholesterol (LDL) is high.
And this can cause brain stroke, heart attack etc.
So better to start lipid lowering drug.
Newer statin group of drug (rosuvastatin) is safe and having least side effects.
So start rosuvastatin 10mg at night.
Continue exercise and dieting.
Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks.
