Hello,
Thanks for trusting Healthcaremagic.
I have gone through your query and I can understand your concerns.
High fever in an infant needs timely evaluation and treatment to avoid unwanted complication. Temperature over 103 is quite high so medical care is essential.
I suggest you to do the following first line measures before rushing in to hospital.
(1)- Do tepid sponging with tap water to reduce body temperature.
(2)- Give him
paracetamol syrup, dose of which depends on the weight of the kid.
(3)- Continue breast feeding and oral fluids to prevent
dehydration.
After reducing the body temperature take him to a
pediatrician and get the following things done:-
(1)- continue antipyretics and oral fluids.
(2)- Do routine blood and urine investigations to rule out UTI(
Urinary tract infection)
(3)- A short course of antibiotics can be tried empirically.
Additional investigations may be needed depending on initial evaluation.
Hope I have answered your query.
Regards.
