Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Daughter is diagnosed with hip dysplasia..she is now 3 month old and is on a belt..when diagnosed hip is not dislocated..she has Sublaxation dysplasia..when she was 3 weeks old Dr put a belt on her..now it s been 9 weeks since she has been on belt..for how long she will have to wear it..?can it be treated completely..?Does it has to be monitored throughout her growing years even after the successful treatment?
The initial treatment usually uses the Pavlik harness. This consists of straps for the chest, shoulders and lower extremities to limit movement of the hips. Does this sound like the belt you refer to?
Harness is worn by infant for a minimum of three months. It should be applied and monitored by a pediatric orthopedic surgeon because inappropriate application can cause a poor outcome. Following successful treatment she will be seen for outpatient visits at gradually increasing intervals between visits.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
