How Can Hoarseness In Voice And Post Nasal Drip Be Treated?

Hello Dr.
I have chronic sinus problem , also have post nasal drip issue and lately I found my voice is kind of cracky specially when I sing. Since last 8-9 days I'm suffering with cough and congestion -started with hoars voice but no fever. Taking Mucinex cough and decongestion syrup - in morning some mucus comes out , still coughing and sounds like there is congestion - is this due to post -nasal-drip ? is this any thing serious ? Since I'm a singer my concern is how can I get my voice back and how to cure this post nasal drip and congestion? Your help would be appreciated.

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain it seems that having a history of sinus infection and post nasal drip along with Laryngitis causing hoarse voice due to infection and inflammation of vocal cords..

It seems that the sinus infection is still lingering and is not yet resolved.

Therefore, I would suggest you to consult an Otolaryngologist and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigations like PNS view x ray or MRI scan can help in diagnosis and treatment can be done accordingly..

You can be advised a course of antibiotics, anti-inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen, decongestants like Pseudoephadrine, do saline nasal irrigation, steam inhalation and use a humidifier in your room..
You can also be advised decongestant nasal sprays containing Xylometazoline or Oxymetazoline..
Avoid spicy and chilled foods..
Do warm compresses around nostrils..
