How Can Horrible Cough Accompanied With Consistently High Temperature Be Treated?

My fever has ranged from 102.7 and 103.6 for two days. Just started Tylenol tonight. Also a horrible cough that feels like part of my chest is being ripped out. No, I have not been to the Dr yet. I m sure that is in my future. Any suggestions to hold me over until I can get in?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

The tylenol should be continued to help reduce the temperature, it should be used every 6 hours, if there is no response then you may want to consider adding ibuprofen to help.

If the cough is wet then fluids plus the use of a mucolytic would help to bring up the mucus eg bisolvan, mucomyst, guaifenesin
A cough suppressant can be added when you have to go out publicly eg dextromethorphan.

A decongestant would help to relieve any nasal congestion or runny nose.

There are many cough mixtures that may have a combination of products.

Rest is very important.

I hope this helps
