How Can Hot Flashes And Irregular Periods Be Treated?

Hello, my name is Sue. I am 53 yrs old. I have been experiencing hot flashes and weight gain as well as irregular menstral cycles for past 4 years. I visited an OBGYN in my area today and was prescribed Emoquette birth control tablets to treat my symptoms as well as as a blood test for Thyroid. Is this an appropriate treatment? YYYY@YYYY

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

The hormonal imbalances are causing hot flashes at your age (53 years old). Hormonal replacement therapy has been suggested by your OBGYN correctly.

However, phyto-estrogens are encouraged to use without side effects alongside magnesium, calcium and vitamin D supplements. Use Valeriana and Aloe-Vera at night for serenity during nighttime.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Albana Sejdini
