How Can Hypertension Be Controlled Without Medication?
I have hypertension. I am at present on amlodipine 10mg. My last 2 bp readings a month apart were 160/100. My doctor added bendrofluazide 5mg to my amlodipine medication. After only 2 doses, yesterday and the day before, I experienced severe cramps in my left calf. I am also taking febuxostat/Adenuric 80mg for prevention of gout. I am allergic to allopurinol and probenecid. My daily water intake is about 6 to 8 regular-sized mugs. My coffee intake is about 2 mugs daily. I gave up smoking (pk of 20s over 3 days) 2 months ago. I am a casual drinker. My alcohol consumption is about 1 litre of beer or 500ml of wine a month. Should I continue with the bendrofluazide tabs? How can I better control my hypertension without further medication? I control my diet, weight and am physically active in landscaping and gardening.
You should minimize your salt and liqourice intake. Also, if the BP readings are from your clinic visits, try measuring it at home so that there is no white-coat effect.
Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
