Hi Doctor, I am 27 year old,not married, I have been recently diagnosed with hypothyroidism.my TSH level is 411.764, as prescribed by my doctor I am taking thyronorm 100 mcg..I have gained around 10-15 kgs from my actual weight. After taking proper medicine can I again come to my regular weight as earlier or its a tough job now
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and understand your concern.
Low thyroid function may cause patients to gain weight and generally after starting treatment with Levothyroxine (Thyronorm) the patient start to loose the extra weight so very likely you will start to loose some of your weight. On the other hand some of this weight reduction will depend also on your eating habits and if you consume a healthy diet with fruit and vegetable, avoiding too many sugar and fat and also being active or exercising.
I would encourage you to continue the treatment the doctor has recommended you and do the regular checks as advised because sometimes some patients need higher doses to have normal TSH and TSH has to be checked every 6-8 weeks till it reaches the normal levels.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
