How Can I Get My Implanted Pacemaker Removed?

I had a pacemaker implanted about a year and a half ago, against my better judgment. I want it removed but can t find a surgeon who will do it. Is there any way of shorting it out short of putting an ice pick through it? I am in counseling, and obn medication, but I m just fed up with the whole life thing.

Cardiologist 's  Response

Hello!

Thank you for asking on HCM!

I understand your concern, and I would like to express my support. But before arriving to such a conclusion (as to remove an implanted pacemaker), I would advice to discuss once again with your cardiologist.

He has the obligation to give you all the information on how was concluded the decision of implanting that pacemaker.

I believe, it must have been a clear and strong indication for PM implantation. Doctors are forced to make such a hard decision, in order to avoid potential complications of your primary health disorder, avoiding such way, any possible life-threatening condition.

I recommend you to think all the matter again, after doctor's explanations on that issue. Take into consideration all the good reasons for the prior medical actions. At the end, probably you will change your mind, decide to make a compromise and live with that life-saving device.

Hope to have been helpful to you. Greetings! Dr. Iliri
