Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have a bug bite that itches on my arm. It s looking like a scabby ring worm. Not a perfect circle but sime scaley skin in a circle kindof. I have retin a for my face. It drys me out and any blemishes I have. Can I use it on my spot? Can it work to get rid of it fast?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
No, it would not be good to use Retin for it as you need some kind of antihistaminic ointment. Also, apply an ice pack to a bite or sting for 15 to 20 minutes once an hour for the first 6 hours. Try a nonprescription medicine for the relief of itching, redness, and swelling such as Benadryl or Chlor-Trimeton. Hydrocortisone 1% cream or calamine lotion may also be helpful. It is important not to scratch or manipulate the wound to prevent infection. You may cover the wound with a thin layer of petroleum jelly, such as Vaseline, and a nonstick bandage.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Ivan R. Rommstein
