How Can Insect Bite On The Legs Be Treated?

My son had a bug bite that developed into a bullseye. I took him to er and was told by the physician he had two bull eyes on his legs from tick bites he was started on antibiotics that night for fourteen day treatment. On the eleventh day he developed hives over most of his body. I took him to an urgent care where we saw a nurse practitioner. She discontinued the antibiotic and started him on steroids. Does he not need the antibiotic?

Hello,
Welcom to
Healthcaremagic.com.
Hello perhaps never needed one. 14 days is too more for a insect bite which hardly get infected.
He should recieved not more then 5 days anti biotic course, some anti allergic or if needed steroids in first place.
Antibiotics can also lead to skin or mucosal eruptions.
That why your next emergency room did.
There are chances of poisoning by insect bite (for first few days), Allergy reaction that too in first few days and least chances of infection that you have covered by too weeks of antibiotics.
So you don't need to worry. Put him on steroids for one or two weeks and watch for the result.
Hope he will be fine soon. Also write to us any time you feel necessary.
Regards
