Hi,
Problems with sleep can be due to other problems like
depression and
anxiety or other physical conditions but in some patients problems with sleep are isolated (not accompanied to other conditions). If your sleep problems are related to anxiety and depression, treatment of these conditions is necessary to treat the sleep problems and you will need to talk with your doctor to start you on drugs that help with anxiety and depression (
SSRI,
citalopram for example).
If the sleep problems are isolated and not related to other conditions than starting with
sleep hygiene is important: go to bed in the same time and get up in the same time each day. Don't sleep during the day. Don't do activities like exercise or computer work before sleep. Stay in a quiet room with not much strong light before bed time. Avoid screens a couple of hours before bed time. Stay in bed only if you want to sleep. Don't stay in bed longer than 20 minutes awake... Etc.
If sleep hygiene is not helping enough then medications like
Melatonin can be tried and
Trazodone is another option. Please talk to your doctor on the needed medications and their prescription.
