How Can Insomnia Along With Dry Mouth Be Treated?

I am having bouts of insomnia especially at night and have to sleep when the daytime comes and or nap in the afternoon sometimes I get a couple or more hours of sleep at night. I have been using a CPAP machine since 2009, I started taking Lantus insulin last october and after a few weeks the dosage was increased from 20 units to 30 units to 35. Recently I have taken a little of 30 and backed off as this medication is suspect in my sleep problems. I am a veteran and my regular doctor recently retired. I am establishing a new one, but no appointment until May. I have a sleep / Nap study scheduled for April 6th, 2018 and I am concerned about the lack of sleep I am getting, dry mouth or weird feeling in my mouth and increased anxiety. This problem has happened recently with my sleep being interrupted more often especially the last 2 weeks. I am taking also Atenolol 25mg, Hctz 25mg, aspirin 81mg, Tamulosin 0.4mg. I try to take a multivitamin and Adult Gummy vitamin D3 and lately a Cinnamon Capsule 1000mg.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Well, insomnia may be difficult to treat, but there are some methods which can be used. Treatment options include behavior and lifestyle changes, medicines, and complementary medicines. You need to change your dietary habits and these include changing your sleep area or schedule, watching what and when you eat and drink, and being more active. It's also important to keep regular bedtimes and wake times-7 days a week-and to try to avoid taking naps during the day. Prescription sleep medicines amy also help and include Diazepam and similar medications. Melatonin is supplement which may be of help as well. In severe cases special testing is needed.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
