Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My 1 year old is having trouble going to sleep at night. He always starts fussing and fights all efforts to put him tho sleep. My GF and I usually end up giving him a bottle of milk and more often than not he goes to sleep. Something in my gut is telling me that we shouldn t do this. Any suggestions on how to get him to sleep?
Babies usually need to sleep up to 10 to 15 hours a day. This is needed because the baby is growing. Babies do not sleep at once and it is possible that they may wake up often in the middle of the night.
This may be seen if the baby is hungry, agitated, irritable, or anxious. Often getting the baby to wear loose clothing, keeping the room cool and airy but not making the room too warm can be useful. Also, feeding the baby till just full is useful as well.
Along with this, avoiding sounds, noise, or any distractions in the room can be useful. In case the symptoms persist, getting a check up would be a good idea.
Do see a paediatrician in case these do not help. All the best.
