Hi,I am Neethu Vipin (Dietitian & Nutritionist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
How Can Insulin Dependent Heart Patient Lose Weight?
My mother is 69 years old and is an insulin dependant diabetic and is noted as a category 4 in heart failure. She needs surgery to replace aorta, valves and arteries as all are calcified/clogged. She weighs in now at around the 100kilos but exercising puts too much stress on her heart. She also has a large hernia in the stomach they say about the size of a football which no one would operate on. Therapists at a cardiac rehab will not allow her to do exercises because they say that she could go into cardiac arrest anytime (which we already know). What do we do? Her food intake is not what it use to be which I believe is normal for someone with her problems. How do we help her lose weight to enable her to have the surgery she needs to survive?
Hello! Thank you for writing. I understand your concern. In this case it is better to get a personalised diet by a clinical nutritionist. So the weightloss would be under a good control and monitored by a specialist. I wish good health to your mother. Thank you and best regards.
