How Can Itching And Inflammation On The Foot Be Treated?

I stepped on a rose thorn about 3 weeks ago and now the area is red and itchy kind of a blueish color at entry spot. When I apply pressure to this toe (4th toe on right foot) it sends a shooting pain up my foot. When I stepped on it my initial reaction was to pull away so I thought maybe I fractured it because I have had a fractured toe. It hurts extremely bad and I don t know what s going on. There is no thorn in my toe anymore. I pulled it out right after it went in. But it was big. My dad checked it later on to make sure there was nothing in it. I continue to clean it with alcohol and triple antibiotic ointment and have soaked it in Epsom salt. No relief.

Hi.
I have read your question and would like to answer.
It has been three weeks and your wound is not healed yet, local anibiotic is ineffective. In my opinion you might have developed fungus infection like sporotrichosis. sporotrichosis is caused by fungus called sporothrix schnenkii, commonly found on rose thorn, hay, twigs and soil. Disease may take days to months to develop. Initial symptom can be painless or mildly tender pink or purple bump under the skin. If left untreated it can go up the foot or arm along the lymphatics and cause more subcutaneous nodules(bump) which can get ulcerated and drain clear fluid and in rare cases it can spread by blood in other body system and can cause infection.
You need to see your doctor for evaluation, he might run some tests like bacterial and fungus culture to confirm the diagnosis.
If there is deep bacterial infection he might prescribe you systemic (oral) antibiotic, if it is fungus infection he might prescribe you antifungal medicine like Itraconazole 100 or 200mg/day for 3 to 6 months.
For pain and inflammation you can take over the counter medication like Ibuprofen 400mg twice a day for 5 to 7 days, if you are not allergic to this medication. Hope this answer is helpful.
Thanks
