How Can Itchy Rashes On The Fingers, Cheek And Neck Be Treated?

I have what looks like multiple mosquito bites on both forefingers and left forearm, though 2 weeks ago I also had a bite on my forehead & one on my cheek & one on the back of my neck, each with a day or so of the other. A month ago I had one on either leg. There has been much swelling (even looks a bit bruised around the joints) and itching - I can not bend my fingers. I went to my GP and he thought it may be a spider bite but I can t recall being around spiders since my most recent reaction (yesterday). He gave me antiobiotic, antihistimine and antiinflammatory. Although the swelling and itching improved, I had the another reaction yesterday. I do have 2 cats but I checked them for fleas, etc and nothing. My husband has no reactions to either cat.

Hello and Welcome to 'Ask A Doctor' service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Well if the swelling improved with Antihistamine and anti-inflammatory medicine then it is most probably due to any bug or spider bite or allergy to any other unknown allergen. If it is due to bite and you do not get exposed to the organisms again then the symptoms will not appear again. But in case if it is due to any unknown allergen then you might get exposed to it again causing recurrence of itchy rashes. So my suggestion is to once get an Allergy test done so that the exact cause of the reaction and the allergen is ruled out. Avoiding exposure to the allergen is the best way to prevent reaction, but if you accidentally get exposed again and again talk to your doctor or an Allergist about Immunotherapy. For now you can continue taking the prescribed medication and apply Calamine lotion to soothe the skin.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Honey Arora
