How Can Itchy Rashes On The Skin Due To Thyroxine Intake Be Treated?

I am on a low dose 25mcg of Thyroxine . I have only bee n taking this medication for 5 weeks & have developed itchy skin/ hives. After research I m convinced that the Thyroxine is the cause. Can I just stop taking it op regards does it require a gradual process?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

That seems a bit unlikely as it is a natural hormone that would be in the body anyway. It is the lowest dose. Stopping it will have effects perhaps but they would be gradual as the thyroid gets lower over time after it is removed. There are several other formulations of thyroid. I might mention that chronic itching affects about 10% of people on a given day and this is likely to be coincidence.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
