How Can Knee Pain Caused By An Injury Be Treated?

About 2 months ago I hit the inside of my right knee against the corner of a bench. Since then I have been experiencing pain in my right knee and swelling. An X-ray revealed abnormal fluid between the joints in my knee. What can I do to relieve the pain and swelling.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Rest is very important. It can be added to the use of anti-inflammatory medication eg ibuprofen, Celebrex, naproxen. One of these, if you can use them, should be used consistently for at least 1 week.

A warm compress can also be applied twice daily for 15 to 20 mins and the leg should be elevated whenever possible.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Michelle Gibson James, General & Family Physician
