How Can Knee Pain In A 64-year-old Ballet Dancer Be Treated?

I am 64 years of age, female,in good shape, (taught ballet for 40 years), and for the last 2.5 months have been fighting a painful blight of pain especially behind the R knee. The pain now starts on top of my foot and I rub it upwards to the knee then behind the knee and up into my thigh. (The pain started in the back of my knee and now has affected my entire leg). I can go up steps OK but walking down is excruciating! To the point I have to take a step at a time. (I recently retired 3 years ago from teaching dance due to aching knees)

Orthopaedic Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Probably you have developed early arthritis of the knee joint or cyst in the knee posteriorly.

Please get X-rays and ultrasound of the knee to assess for the condition causing pain. Start painkillers and knee exercises in the meantime.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Gopal Goel,
Orthopaedic Surgeon
