Hi, Can you please tell me why my lips are so dark even though I dont smoke, dont have much coffee or tea. How can I get rid of the darkness on my lips? I have noticed that when I wake up in the morning some days my lips look slightly pinky, but after a while turn brown again. Please can you kindly advise me what to use/eat so I can get healthy pink lips? Thank you.
Dark lips can be due to genetic inheritance, using too many lips cosmetic products, too much sun exposure, use of certain medicines on regular basis etc.
If the cause if hereditary, there is little that can be done to permanently change the color of lips. For exposure in sun, you can use lip balms that protect your lip skin from UV rays. In addition, honey, lemon, olive oil, mustard oil can be used. Massage of lips with ice cubes can help too. If you are taking iron supplements or other medications on regular basis, talking to your doctor about their side effects on lips can help.
I hope this information helps you. Thank you for choosing HCM. Let me know if you have further questions.
Best, Dr. Viraj Shah
