How Can Liver Dysfunction Be Treated?

Years ago, I was exposed to the blood of a person who had type c hepatitis. The blood bank refuses my blood saying I show 3 factors. My primary car doc did several tests including looking for DNA of antigens. Now, 35 years later, he tells me I have reduced liver function. I am a 75 year old male weighing 280 pounds and do not exercise.

Internal Medicine Specialist 's  Response
Hello,

Liver infected with hepatitis C viruses patients may develop liver cells failure. If the virus is active or not and treatment required or not depend upon the viral load and serum ALT and AST level.

Also, need an ultrasound abdomen and liver biopsy. Please consult your physician/Gastroenterologist he will examine for above and treat you with preglycated interferons, ribavirin, sofosbuvir or ledipasvir etc.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
