I am being treated with penicillin for a chronic sinus infection. Before seeing a Dr. I would wake up almost choking on phelm until finally I developed a metal taste in my mouth. Now my taste is so repulsive that I only eat to live whereas before I loved to eat.

Hi..
Thanks for the query..

Metallic taste in mouth when you are already diagnosed with sinus infection can be can be due to post nasal drip leading to drainage of infected mucous down the throat.
Metallic taste can also be due to side effect of antibiotic Penicillin..

So as the infection will subside and the intake of antibiotic will be stopped then gradually the metallic taste will get better..

So my suggestion to you to consult your Physician and once get evaluated, so that appropriate cause can be confirmed..

For now to improve the taste you can be do warm saline gargles and flavoured antiseptic mouthwash..
You can also chew flavoured sugar free chewing gum..
You can use a tongue cleaner to clean your tongue and it will help in improving taste..

Hope this helps..

Regards.
