Hello and Welcome to 'Ask A Doctor' service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Since you are suffering from PCOS which causes menstrual irregularities resulting in prolonged bleeding or heavy monthly flow thus increases woman's risk for
iron deficiency anemia. Additional causes to look out for low hemoglobin with PCOS are underactive thyroid (
hypothyroidism), low
vitamin B12 or vitamin D levels, and anemia (low blood count). If anemia is secondary to above disease then correcting the underlying pathology will help in increasing the hemoglobin level, along with dietary regime.
Take green gram, turmeric, turnip, rice gruel, fenugreek, carrot, banana, pomegranate, dates, beetroot, garlic, honey, amla, and buttermilk. Avoid black gram, citrus fruits, sour food, asafoetida, fish, excess water intake, daytime sleeping, excess physical exercise or anger or grief.
Consult an obstetrics and gynecology doctor for PV examination to rule out abnormalities of uterus (if no relief is with general measures and heavy menstrual flow persists) who may refer for
dilation and curettage (D&C) followed by
hormone therapy. Till you take an appointment take tablet Regesterone (
norethisterone acetate).
Note. If
contraception is desired, use contraceptives pills, otherwise use Regesterone.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Dr. Munish Sood
