Hi, I was hoping you can help me. My brother-in-law is in the hospital over a month with e-coli pneumonia. They are regulating his oxygen which seems to go down during the nite and when he has physical therapy. They are giving him antibiotics but his immune system isn t that great. He survived lung cancer (he has 1 lung 1/2) He had brain cancer and the tumor was taken out and he was recooperating at home when he developed this. I don t know how to help - I know the nurses and doctors are doing their best but I want to help my sister with anything else that may help. Thanks Susan
Is it pneumonia involving both lungs? Is she aspirated? If saturation falling down means I think she may develop bilateral pneumonitis or secondaries in the lungs.
She is in critical condition, but with ventilator support, we can try level best. Send sputum or endotracheal tube collection culture. Send blood and urine for culture sensitivity. Regular physiotherapy, right antibiotics, frequent position change with bronchodilator therapy she may improve. Please follow your doctor orders, and he will examine and treat her according to her health condition.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Penchila Prasad Kandikattu
