Ok, pneumonia causes diuresis. This can cause loss of potassium. When cigarettes and pneumonia are gone, then mostly the diuresis stops and the potassium comes back. A long hospitalization (on the breathing machine?) will cause loss of muscle mass and this is hard to get back. Regular meals that have a usual amount of protein, exercise, making sure the calories are not in the starvation range are about all that can be done. And, especially in women over age 30, it is hard to make new muscle.
