How Can Lower Back Pain On Left Side Be Treated?

My 8 year old grandson has been complaining of a lower left side back ache for a few days. His temp it 98.9 and he has not urinated in the last 4 hours, he thinks he has not all day but I believe he did when he woke. I gave him 10 oz cranberry juice & he s drinking water. He is not complaining of any severe pains. What do I do?

Hello and welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

As per your query about lower left back pain is most likely to be due to constipation or gastroenteritis. Give him more water, juice, milk and fruits. If he has constipation you can give him any stool softener like cremaffin. If he doesn't urinate for more than 8 hours you should consult a physician or pediatrician to any major cause like urinary tract infection, stenosis etc and for an appropriate treatment.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Jyoti Pandey
