How Can Lymphoma Presence Be Confirmed Or Denied For Further Treatment?

During sonography, it was found that there was a mass in peritonium. CT scan and pet scan confimed the growth. I had a history of marginal zone lymphoma in 2006 and spleenectomy was done. My Oncologist confirmed my position as lymphoma after going though my bone mafrrow, ct scan and pet scan reports. However, needle biopsy did not show lymphoma. He then advised me to go for open biopsy which also showed that there is no lymphoma. My oncologist still feels that I suffer from lymphoma but unable to treat me in the absence of biopsy confirmation. What shall I do now.

Hello,

This is the picture wherein the doctors can get stuck but the lymphoma lymph nodes can be very tricky to be diagnosed by FNAC, needs confirmation by formal biopsy. But in your case the formal biopsy is also negative. You can request the following to your treating doctor.

Second opinion of another pathologist with the block and the slides already done can help to resolve the issues. If second opinion is also negative for lymphoma then there is nothing to worry about.

Best to keep under observation and have follow up investigations to catch up the disease at the earliest and to have repeat biopsy of some other mass if present as per the PET scan and CT scan report.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Dr. T Chandrakant
