How Can Muscle Spasms And Numbness In The Lower Back Be Treated?

This morning, I woke up with a muscle spasm in my lower back on the left side. I took Flexeril and Tramadol. I now have left-sided dermatome numbness of my flank. Will this go away on its own or should I schedule an appointment with my pain management PA?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

If you are having a frequent episode of pain and numbness, then you should visit an orthopedic surgeon as soon as possible.

It is not a good sign if you are having frequent numbness in specific dermatome. It may be due to nerve compression and to rule out its cause, you should go for a detail investigation preferably MRI.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Somaiya Sultana
