How Can Nasal Stuffiness Causing Breathing Difficulties Be Treated?

My child cannot breathe through his nose. It is very stuffy and it has been like that for 2 1/2 months now. I am very worried about it. I took him to urgent care 2 1/2 months ago and they gave me a prescription for Flonase but it does not seem to be working. They said he has allergies but he has never been like this before. I am considering taking him to a ear, nose, and throat specialist

Pediatrician, Pulmonology 's  Response
Hi...after going through the history I have two possibilities to suggest -

1. Upper airway resistance syndrome - In this condition you can use inhaled intranasal corticosteroids and if they are going to work we need to think about going ahead with adenotonsillectomy surgery.

2. Moderate to severe persistent Allergic rhinitis - I suggest the only effective therapy, is intranasal corticosteroids.
