How Can Nausea And Diarrhea While On Chemotherapy Be Treated?
My mom has endomytrial carsinoma stage-II while we travel out of US. The doctor here decide chemo before surgery because the tumor was 20x14cm. She had nausea&vomits green bile during chemo, and occasionally during the day. Now she had diarreah 2days after chemo, and it haven t stopped yet after she took Immodium. Seems dehydrated and she didnt like IV fluids. Because too much IV fluid makes her body swelling. THE doctor told u because mom protein level was low and making the water retention. Any suggestions for the nausea and diarrhea. What medication is the best for her to take. Will she able to continue taking Ensure daily.
The drug induced nausea is mediated via chemo receptor trigger zone of CNS and the same has to be managed with anti emetic medicines as ondancetron or ramecetron for best results.
The diarrhea is intestine flora upset, which has to be corrected with lacto bacillus and probiotics. Immodium is not going to control the same.
In the case, if above mentioned measures do not control the issue, she may have to get hospitalised treatment irrespective of her desires.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr. Purva Patel, General & Family Physician
