Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I received the numbers from a Cholesterol particle analysis that is materially more in depth than just the numbers for LDL, HDL and Triglycerides. The only problem is that neither my Internist not certainly me really understand how to interpret the numbers. Can you help with that?
Total cholesterol level should be less than 180mg/dl. LDL cholesterol should be less than 160mg/dl. HDL cholesterol should be higher than 40mg/dl. Triglycerides should be less than 200 mg/dl. HDL cholesterol is good cholesterol and is cardio-protective. Hence higher its levels, better it is. LDL cholesterol is bad as it is atherogenic in nature and blocks coronary arteries. Hence its level should be as less as possible. Triglyceride levels also needs a check, as its increased levels indirectly increases LDL cholesterol level.
