Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My pulse was 60 at 5am then went down to 58 at 7am . Then I took blood pressure at 7:05am and it is OK at 110/70. I do not have a second hand watch and am using a wrist blood pressure cuff with pulse too. At 2:15 it said pulse is 54. I started a new hypothyroid drug at 9:45 am and I think this drop in pulse is from that. Drank gator aide in case electrolytes are off-just had blood work last Wednesday and all wnl. What else can I do or take to increase my pulse. Registered Nurse retired. Thanks slot.
As long as you are not having any symptoms, such as lightheadedness, dizziness, or weakness, there would be no reason to be concerned about sinus bradycardia of above 50.
You may want to get an EKG just to make sure that there is no heart block or signs of heart disease causing the bradycardia, but in most cases, you will have sinus bradycardia, which above the rate of 50 would be fairly common and not associated with any health problems or risks.
Actually, if you have low thyroid, the medication used to treat that may help bring your heart rate up over time.
If you do start to notice symptoms as I mentioned above, you will likely need to see a heart rhythm doctor and a pacemaker may need to be considered.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Aaron Branch, General & Family Physician
