How Can Oral Thrush In A Toddler Be Treated?

Hello Doctor, My daughter is two and half months old. I doubt she got thrush in her mouth as I can see white patches on her tongue and is crying when I am feeding her. Paediatrician prescribed Zytee RB gel to be applied before 10 mins of feeding 3-4 times. I applied it twice in 2hrs in 1 hr duration as the baby had difficulty in feeding. Is it safe to apply often as I am scared of seeing the side effects of this gel in Google.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Babies cannot clean their mouth. Mother has to do it...Oral thrush in a baby can be treated by:

- Cleaning babies’ mouth gently with a smooth cotton cloth wrapped around your little finger soaked with a little glycerin borax liquid, daily once.
- Add B complex drops in her diet (5 drops a day).
- Observe cleanliness of Nipples with normal water. Treat in case there is infection with your treating doctor's advice.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Vasudha Jayant Athavale
